Last month we launched the first phase of development for our brand new mask and puppetry show! For this project Open Pit Theatre is collaborating with The Wonderheads (aka Wonder-Pit) a mask company based out of Victoria, BC. The four of us (Geneviève Doyon, Jessica Hickman, Kate Braidwood, and Andrew Phoenix) are co-creating the piece, which is set to premiere May 2021 at The Yukon Arts Centre.
We spent five days working on plot, themes, character development, and aesthetic. Here are a few pictures:
In essence, our story is of a female bush pilot who is crossing the Yukon with her sister when their plane crashes into the wild. It is a northern story of resilience, grief, wildness, and the wisdom of nature’s animals.
Our next phase of development is set for September 2020, and will take place in Wells, BC at Sunset Theatre.
