Open Pit Theatre welcomes Toronto based Fight Director and Stunt Co-ordinator Kevin Robinson to the Yukon on September 15th, 2018 to offer two incredible stage combat workshops!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR...
Kevin Robinson is a certified Fight Instructor with Fight Directors Canada; a resident fight instructor at Rapier Wit Studios; a founding member of the internationally award winning stunt team Riot A.C.T; a Fight Director; an independent stunt coordinator; and a stunt performer. He is also a graduate of the Sheridan College/University of Toronto joint Theatre and Drama Specialist program.
Kevin has been choreographing and teaching violence for stage and screen for 17 years using all manner of weapons from knives, to swords, to chainsaws, and firearms. He spent 4 seasons at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival from 2008-2012 working as an Assistant Fight Director on such shows as Jesus Christ Superstar, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, West Side Story, As You Like It, Peter Pan, The Grapes of Wrath, Henry V, Pirates of Penzance, and Cymbeline.
Most recently Kevin has been the Fight Director for the North American tours of Evil Dead the Musical, and has spent his summers as the Fight Director for the Canadian Badlands Passion Play; where he will be returning again this year for his 4thproduction. ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS...
COMBAT FOR SCREEN
SATURDAY, September 15
2:00pm - 4:00pm
This workshop will look at how to build exciting fights for camera using our iPhones and tablets. We will build fights and talk about angles, lenses, editing, and timing. A good intro class for aspiring filmmakers or anyone who wants to build something fun for internet likes.
Location = Alpine Bakery
Cost = $20 (cash or cheque only)
Note: The fight skills covered in this class will be different than the stage workshop so that participants can add onto their skill set.
COMBAT FOR STAGE
SATURDAY, September 15
10:30am - 1:00pm
In this workshop we will look at the basics of Safety, Story, and Style for performance combat. Starting when a fight begins; adding in punches, kicks, slaps, and blocks; and looking at how fights can end. We will also look at multiple ways to get to the ground via falls, throws and rolls. A good intro teaser for anyone in the performing arts.
